Future for Technology and the Office Workspace

A look at the impact of good design on urban planning and the built environment. The types of space
and Interior office design demanded by companies is changing. More collaboration and team work are
required inoffices where there are ‘never enough meeting rooms’. The move away from fixed allocated
desks towards new models of workplace provision will be discussed, together withvisions for the city as
people become increasingly mobile and place independent.
How do people go about being creative? Can the working environment really enhance the creativity of
your employees, and if so, how? The BBC, Microsoft, Herman Miller, forward thinking inc and TP Bennett
set out to explore these challenges through a collaborative research project into the nature of
Creativity at Work. Annie Leeson, project director, hosts an exploration of the results and the implications
for organisations and their offices.

WorkTech North is a forum for all those involved in the future of work and the workplace as
well as technology and innovation. It follows the format of its sister event in London and
will launch at The Lowry, Salford Quays – adjacent to the site of the planned mediacity:uk.
The conference, on 29th June 2007, and a masterclass on Thursday 28th June will bring
together leaders in their field from workplace futures, real estate and technology to examine
what a media city is and what it means at a regional, national, and global level. It will also
look at the implications of convergence between the worlds of technology and office design
driven by the trends that will change the nature of how and where work takes place.
